Stijn Michiels, at the studio since 2019, is a creative millipede. He loves singing, theatre and art. He‘s crazy about musicals. Once he falls in loves with one, his passion gets to be so big, he goes to see one as often as possible. For instance, he went to see the musical ’14-18’ no less than 11 times!

 

Stijn explores the internet for resource material that is closely connected to his own life. Not only musicals, but also theatre, visits to the Efteling, his interest in dinosaurs and trips he makes with his family, are featured in his work.

He first traces the pictures he finds, on a lightbox. The traced drawings form the foundation for drawing with a free hand on a larger format.  Understanding his stylized handwriting is understanding his work method.
